Plumes of black smoke could be seen coming from the blaze on Penthorpe Close, Intake on Friday morning. A South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue spokesperson confirmed two crews were called to the fire just after 10.10am. On arrival firefighters found a box van and rubbish on fire. Crews from Birley and Parkway used a hose reel to extinguish the flames. They have since left the scene.

One man was hospitalised with “slight smoke inhalation,” the spokesperson added. An ambulance also attended the scene to transport him to hospital.
