Man stabbed and punched by violent yobs on shopping street

A man was punched in the back of the head, hit repeatedly as he fell to the ground and then stabbed in the arm by a gang of yobs as he walked through a shopping precinct in Sheffield.

The 34-year-old was walking from the Ecclesall area through Berkeley Precinct off Ecclesall Road when he approached a group of four or five yobs who were filling the pathway, forcing him to walk through the middle of them.

Words were exchanged, and as the man passed he was punched in the back of the head, then punched again and again as he fell to the ground.

He felt a blow to his left arm, which was later discovered to be a stab wound and he lost consciousness.

He was taken to the Northern General Hospital and needed surgery and physio for the injury to his arm. He is now recovering at home.

The thugs were all white, aged 18 to 20 and wearing casual sports gear.
