Detectives investigating the incident are not linking it with the murder of 23-year-old Grant Bodell who was found with gunshot wounds on wasteland off Queen Mary Road, Manor, in the early hours of Saturday.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Part of Harborough Avenue, Sheffield, is closed following reports of an assault.

“Police were called just before midnight to reports that a 47-year-old man had been seriously assaulted in Harborough Avenue. He has been taken to hospital where his condition is described as serious.

“Officers continue their enquiries in the local area and Harborough Avenue is closed at the junction of Motehall Road at Manor Park Centre roundabout. It is expected that the road will re-open later this afternoon.

“Initial enquiries suggest that this incident is not linked to the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Grant Bodell.

“It is believed that the 47-year-old man was at the Merry Monk pub in Manor Park shortly before the incident is alleged to have taken place.”
