A man is being held by police today over a raid at a jewellers in Sheffield city centre in which Rolex watches worth £140,000 were stolen.

The 27-year-old is being quizzed over a robbery in September in which a gang of masked men armed with sledgehammers stole the watches in a terrifying
daylight raid in September.

One female customer, along with six members of staff, were ordered to lie on the floor as three men shattered a glass display cabinet in the shop in Barker’s Pool.

The men, thought to have been armed with at least one sledgehammer and a crowbar, also attempted to break into two other displays but were unable to get through the glass.

In total they made off with 17 Rolex watches, valued collectively at between £130,000 and £140,000.
