Man jailed over Ecclesall Road attack that left Sheffield’s Tyson Mahmood in coma

A man who left another man in a coma following an attack on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield has been jailed for eight months.

Louis Ward, aged 27, of Broomfield Road, Broomhall, seriously injured 36-year-old Tyson Mahmood when violence flared on Saturday, September 19, last year.

Mr Mahmood was airlifted to hospital after being left fighting for life after the attack.

He spent time in a coma in intensive care during the first few weeks of his battle for survival.

Four months on, he remains in hospital.

Details of why the attack took place have not yet been released by South Yorkshire Police.

But Ward appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday, January 18 for a pre-trial hearing and pleaded guilty.

He was sentenced on that day to imprisonment.

Providing an update on Mr Mahmood’s health in the wake of the attack, South Yorkshire Police said: “The injured man remains in hospital in the same condition.”
