DC Becky Breakwell of Doncaster Protecting Vulnerable Persons Unit, officer in charge of the case, said: "Smith made contact with police in September 2018 after one of the children in this case disclosed the abuse she had suffered to her parent, who in turn confronted Smith and told him to hand himself in.

"Following this, six more victims were identified.

“Despite what they have been through, all seven of Smith's victims have shown immense courage through what has been an incredibly difficult time and their strength should be commended.

"I hope today's court result will help to bring some closure to the victims and their families, who have all been through a horrendous ordeal dating back many years."

Smith, of Penhallow, Truro, but previously of Doncaster, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to eight counts of rape of a child under 13, eight counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, three counts of sexual assault on a child and one of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
