Man jailed after threatening woman with a knife at Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens

A man has been jailed for two years after threatening a woman with a knife during an attempted robbery at Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens.

Richard Galloway, 56, of no fixed abode was charged with attempted robbery following the incident on Clarkehouse Road on 28 April. He was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon after community support officers from the Sheffield North West neighbourhood team saw him with an eight-inch blade on the same road on 8 April.

A 27-year-old woman was reportedly walking past the gardens when she could sense a presence behind her. After turning round, she was confronted by Galloway, who threatened her with a knife and asked for money.The victim told him she didn’t have any money and he fled the scene. She was unharmed. He pleaded guilty to the charges at Sheffield Crown Court last Thursday (21 May) and was ordered to pay a £149 victim surcharge upon his release from prison.
