A MURDER investigation is under way in South Yorkshire after a man’s body was discovered in a house.
The body of the 55-year-old, who has been named by locals as Alan Cartwright, was discovered in a house in Mapplewell, at around 8.30pm on Tuesday.
Police began treating the death as murder following a post mortem examination yesterday.
A 26-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is helping police with their enquiries.
Shocked residents said they were not even aware Mr Cartwright, known locally as ‘Tosh,’ had died. The father-of-one is believed to have lived alone and neighbours described him as a quiet man who kept himself to himself
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “South Yorkshire Police are investigating the death of a Barnsley man who died on Tuesday.
“Police were called to an address in the Mapplewell area of Barnsley where the body of a 55-year-old man was found.
“A post mortem was carried out yesterday, which has led to detectives treating this death as suspicious.
“A 26-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.”
