Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on December 31 how Luke Lindley, 22, of Holmes Lane, Holmes, Rotherham, struck out at the light switch after he and his partner had fallen out.

Robert Coyne, prosecuting, said police were called to the home of the sister of Lindley’s partner where they found the defendant drunk and abusive and they discovered he had smashed and cracked a light switch.

The defendant said a friend had claimed he had been talking to another girl which had upset his partner and as they argued he used too much force on the light switch.

Magistrates sentenced Lindley to a six-month conditional discharge. He was also ordered to pay £106 in costs and a victim surcharge.
