Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard today, August 17, how James Cook, aged 26, of no fixed abode, allegedly committed the offences following an incident on City Road and Manor Fields Park, at Deep Pit, near Arbourthorne, on August 15.

Mark Hughes, prosecuting, said this was an alleged spree resulting in some very serious alleged offences including threats with a blade and possessing what was thought to be a shotgun with intent to cause fear or violence.

Cook has been charged with affray, assault by beating, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, two counts of threatening a person with a blade and two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

District Judge Naomi Redhouse explained no pleas would be taken at this stage of proceedings because two of the charges are so serious they would have to be considered at Sheffield Crown Court and these two matters allegedly relate to the other alleged offences.

Cook, formerly of White Lane, Gleadless, Sheffield, was remanded in custody and his case was committed for a further hearing at Sheffield Crown Court on September 16.
