Man due in court after trying to outrun ‘17 officers and police dog’ in Sheffield

A man who allegedly tried to outrun 17 police officers and a police dog is due in court today charged with a string of offences, including sexual assault.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in the Lupton Road area of Lowedges on Tuesday (28 April) for domestic abuse-related offences.

Despite a heavy police presence to apprehend him, including nine police cars and one van, he tried to run away on foot before being caught.

Police confirmed the man was scheduled to attend court to this morning charged with no fewer than seven offences. They include sexual assault on a female over 16, criminal damage under £5000, common assault, three counts of possessing a bladed article in a public place, and a breach of bail.A post on the Sheffield South West neighbourhood policing team Facebook page said they were “hopeful that the courts will remand him as a result”.
