"From talking to other people he seemed to be resisting a little bit. It was quite a big response to it, they spent some time negotiating with him and eventually managed to get him into the ambulance."

At least two ambulances and police vehicles attended the scene directly outside Treatz Dessert Parlour. A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said the man was injured on London Road shortly after 3.15pm.

Cllr Mohammed added: "At the time it looked quite serious. There was a lot of flashing lights and police hopping out and stopping people.

“Police have managed to reopen the road, there’s still some police here.”
