Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on Monday, December 30, how Mark James Sully, 33, of Stubbin Lane, Sheffield, admitted causing the damage to the car which belonged to a friend of his former partner.

Mark Hughes, prosecuting, said his ex’s friend had received a call to go the Sheffield address of the defendant’s current girlfriend and the complainant’s friend was present and there was a “commotion” and items were being thrown about.

Mr Hughes said the complainant’s friend – who was the defendant’s ex-partner – got into the rear of the car before Sully jumped onto the car bonnet and also landed two-footed on the windscreen.

The complainant stated she had been concerned because she felt she had been acting as a peacekeeper.

Sully told police he had originally gone to his girlfriend’s address because his ex-partner had turned up causing issues.

He added that he had no right to damage the vehicle but he had thought it had belonged to his ex-partner.

Sully pleaded guilty to causing damage after the incident on September 23 and he also admitted failing to surrender to court on October 8.

Yvonne Wragg, defending, said there was an altercation between Sully’s current partner at that time and his ex-partner and he took his frustration out on the vehicle.

She added that Sully has some mental health issues.

District Judge Naomi Redhouse adjourned the case to consider a probation report before sentencing on January 21.

Sully was released on conditional bail with a curfew.
