Man charged with street robberies in Sheffield appears in court

A man has appeared in court in connection with a series of street robberies in Sheffield.

Joel Fletcher, of Burngreave Road, Burngreave, is accused of three offences of robbery after victims were targeted within a few days on streets across Hillsborough.

The 21-year-old was also charged with the theft of a necklace at a supermarket in Hillsborough and burglary at a house in Fox Hill, in February this year.

Fletcher appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court this morning where he was remanded in custody for two weeks.

He is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, May 1.

Fletcher is alleged to have stolen a necklace from a women in Middlewood Road, Hillsborough on Wednesday, April 8.

He is also alleged to have carried out a further two robberies which were reported to South Yorkshire Police on Sunday, April 12.

A chain was stolen from a 60-year-old man while he was waiting at a bus stop in Middlewood Road.

The same day Fletcher is also accused of taking a necklace and ring from a 41-year-old woman, who was targeted as she was walking along an alleyway off Langsett Road, in Hillsborough.

Fletcher also faces a theft charge in connection with the theft of a necklace.

The jewellery was taken from a woman in her 60s when she was in the Morrison’s supermarket in Hillsborough Barracks.

The fifth charged relates to an allegation of burglary at a house in Fox Hill, which was reported to police on Tuesday, February 10.
