Man charged with six counts of attempted kidnap and other offences in Rotherham

A man has appeared before court today, charged in connection with multiple incidents in Rotherham.

Shamaz Ali, 30, of Clough Road, has been charged with six counts of attempted kidnap, one count of assault with intent to resist lawful apprehension, one count of criminal damage and one count of driving over the prescribed limit.

The charges relate to multiple reports of concern received from members of the public in the Herringthorpe area on Thursday, September 24.

In a post on Thursday, Rotherham NHP said: “At around 8.50am this morning, police started to receive a number of calls from the public reporting concerns about the actions of a man in a car approaching and speaking to people in the Herringthorpe area.

“It is reported some of the individuals approached were students at local schools.”

Mr Ali appeared before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court today, Saturday, September 26, where he was remanded in custody.

He will appear before Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, October 23.
