Man ‘bottled’ by youths and grandmother, 72, injured in horror Sheffield street attack
Four arrests were made over reports that a man was attacked in a Sheffield street.
South Yorkshire Police said officers were deployed to Carr Road, Walkley, at around 7.30pm yesterday following reports that a 45-year-old man had been assaulted.
A 72-year-old woman is said to have attempted to intervene and suffered minor injuries in the disturbance.
She then suffered a medical episode and was taken to hospital by ambulance but has since been discharged.
Officers arrested two 18-year-old women, a 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl on suspicion of grievous bodily harm without intent.
Two neighbours claim violence flared after somebody knocked on an elderly couple’s door or window and they were challenged about it.
It is believed that some of the incident may have been captured on a mobile phone.
Neighbours reported that the 45-year-old man was hit over the head with a bottle.
South Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called at around 7.30pm on Wednesday, May 5 to reports of a disturbance in Carr Road, Walkley.
“It is reported that a group of individuals were witnessed assaulting a 45-year-old man.
“A 72-year-old woman attempted to intervene and suffered minor injuries. The woman later suffered a medical episode and was taken to hospital via ambulance to receive treatment. She has since been discharged.
“Police attended the scene and arrested four people - two 18-year-old women, a 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl - on suspicion of grievous bodily harm without intent.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
