A man has been banned from keeping animals after his dog attacked an innocent dog in Sheffield.

Muhammed Akhtar, aged 28, of Hall Road, Handsworth, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court over an incident on his street in March when his German Shepherd escaped from the house and attacked a dog being walked at the time.
The woman walking her dog managed to stop the attack but her pet suffered a 10cm laceration to its chest which required emergency veterinary treatment, resulting in fees of £800.
South Yorkshire Police dog legislation officers seized the German Shepherd.
They found the dog was kept in a cage described by officers as “no bigger than the dog” in a hot conservatory with no ventilation.
The dog had no padding in the cage and no food or water.
In court, Akhtar was ordered to pay £2,000 in compensation and was banned from keeping or being in control of animals for five years.
He was also given a conditional caution for animal cruelty offences.
South Yorkshire Police said: “As a dog owner, you are the one who will be held responsible for your dog’s actions.
“It is your responsibility to keep them under control, ensuring everyone’s safety.”
