Man bailed by police after 'explosives' arrest which led to bomb squad deployment to Sheffield street

A man arrested on suspicion of being involved in the preparation of explosives has been bailed.

The 28-year-old, who was also held on suspicion of prohibited items, was arrested after officers raided a house in Selly Oak Road, Jordanthorpe, yesterday.

The raid resulted in the army’s bomb squad being called to the house and residents being evacuated from their homes as a precaution until checks were carried out.

South Yorkshire Police said a number of ‘suspicious items’ were seized.
