Police patrols have been stepped up in a Sheffield suburb after a man was assaulted for confronting yobs hurling missiles at passing vehicles and shooting water pistols at members of the public.

Inspector Ian Stubbs, of the Woodseats and Gleadless Valley Safer Neighbourhood Team, said a group of Asian males had been throwing water bombs and stones at vehicles on Abbeydale Road.

He said there have also been reports of water pistols being aimed at pedestrians from cars.

“We have seen a recent increase again in anti-social behaviour on Abbeydale Road with Asian males throwing water bombs and stones at passing traffic.

“There have also been a number of incidents where Asian males in cars have been shooting passers-by with water pistols from their cars.

“This resulted in an incident last Thursday evening whereby a male was assaulted after confronting the men responsible.”
