Man arrested over incident involving teenage girls at South Yorkshire park

An investigation has been launched concerning an incident in which a man is alleged to have demonstrated ‘concerning behaviour’ towards two teenage girls at a South Yorkshire park.

The man is also said to have made ‘inappropriate comments’ to the girls, aged 14 and 15, as they walked along a gennel leading into Wickersley Park, Rotherham between 8.30pm and 9pm on May 20 this year.

The pair were near to Wickersley Health Centre on Bawtry Road when they were first approached by the man.

A woman, unknown to the girls spoke with them as he left the area. The girls were both unharmed.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Detectives from Rotherham are now keen to speak to the woman who witnessed the incident, and anyone else in the area who may have spoken to the girls after the incident.

The suspect remains in police custody.
