Man arrested over attempted murder of Sheffield boy remains in police custody

A man arrested over the attempted murder of a Sheffield boy remains in police custody this morning.

The 30-year-old was arrested yesterday over the shooting of a 12-year-old boy on Northern Avenue, Arbourthorne, on Sunday afternoon.

He is being held on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

A police investigation was launched after the boy was injured in a drive-by shooting as he was stood with a group of friends.

South Yorkshire Police said he was an innocent bystander caught up in a feud between two rival gangs.

The intended target is believed to have been in the Arbourthorne area when the gun was fired, but the young boy was mistakenly hit.

He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery.

Yesterday the youngster was described as stable.
