Police have arrested a man who is alleged to have touched himself inappropriately on board a train between Sheffield and Nottingham.

Officers from British Transport Police, who are investigating the incident, now want to speak to passengers who were on the 17.05 Sheffield to Nottingham service on Monday, May 27.

The 25-year-old man was arrested after a 23-year-old woman passenger from Sheffield saw what he was doing.

PC Ewan Brechin, the investigating officer, said: “The man is alleged to have inappropriately touched himself while on the train and we would like to hear from anyone who may have been travelling on this service who may be able to help with our enquiries into this incident.

“The victim, a 23-year-old woman from Sheffield witnessed the man’s actions, and as you can imagine has been left understandably shaken by this incident.”

The man has been released on police bail until June 30, pending further enquiries.

British Transport Police have appealed for anyone who was on the train or who has any information about the incident to contact them by calling 0800 40 50 40.

Witnesses can also contact the officers by text message on 61016 quoting background reference number B4/NEA of 12/06/2013.
