Man arrested for drug offences in Sheffield ‘bolted like an Olympic sprinter’

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug offences after bolting like an ‘Olympic sprinter’ when he saw a police car patrolling a Sheffield suburb.

Officers from the Burngreave neighbourhood policing team spotted a man in a gennel close to Petre Street, who ran off when he saw their police patrol car.

A police chase was then mounted and the man was arrested a short time later.

Officers also found a container of cannabis thrown into a garden.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers from the Burngreave neighbourhood team continue to target criminality in the area.

“Officers spotted a male in a gennel close to Petre Street, who decided to do his best impression of an Olympic sprinter when seeing the police car.

“He was detained a short time later, not before launching a container full of drugs into a nearby garden.

“The male was processed for drug possession offences.”
