Man arrested after two women killed in crash on major road

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after two women were killed during a crash on a busy Derbyshire road this morning.

Two women died following a collision involving a blue Vauxhall Corsa and blue BMW on A6135 Station Road between B6419 Hague Lane (Renishaw) and B6053 Staveley Lane (Eckington) earlier today (Wednesday, October 7).

The women, who were travelling in the Corsa, died at the scene of the incident.

Police closed the road for several hours today after they were called to the scene at 5.40am this morning and advised motorists to avoid the area.

The road has now been reopened.
