A police pursuit in Sheffield ended with a car crashing into roadworks, several other vehicles being damaged, and a man arrested for dangerous driving and drink driving.

The police helicopter was also scrambled for the chase, which started in Firth Park Avenue, Firth Park, at 4.30pm on Monday and continued along Barnsley Road, Burngreave Road and Spital Hill – where the Suzuki 4x4 being followed by police eventually crashed into roadworks barriers blocking one side of the street.

A 26-year-old man from Gleadless Valley was arrested for dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified and drink driving.

He was later bailed pending further inquiries.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said Spital Hill was closed while officers dealt with the scene.

Witnesses should call 101.
