Locals reported seeing large numbers of officers around the A57, with the car stopped shortly afterwards.

A police spokesman said: “Around 10.10am this morning (Wednesday, July 22), while on patrol on Water Slacks Road in Sheffield, officers spotted a silver Toyota Reebok acting suspiciously.

“Officers requested the vehicle to stop and a pursuit commenced.

“Supported by the National Police Air Service, officers continued the pursuit until the vehicle came to a stop a short time later on Mosborough Road.”

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, dangerous driving and failing to stop.

The helicopter was deployed to Sheffield from its base near Wakefield, in West Yorkshire.

A spokesman for the National Police Air Service said: “At 10.18am on July 22 2026, an NPAS Carr Gate helicopter crew was deployed in support of South Yorkshire Police to assist with a vehicle search in the Handsworth area.

“The crew remained on task for approximately seven minutes.”
