Man and woman charged with murder of Doncaster toddler, aged two

Keigan was taken to hospital on Wednesday, January 9, after emergency services including an air ambulance were called to a home on Bosworth Road in Adwick that morning to reports the youngster had gone into cardiac arrest.

He died in hospital the following day, and a post-mortem examination found he had died as a result of head injuries.

Martin Currie, 36, and Sarah O’Brien, 32, both of Bosworth Road, Doncaster, were yesterday evening, Friday, January 10, both charged with murder.

They remain in police custody and are due to appear at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court today, Saturday, January 11.

Detective Chief Inspector James Axe, the senior investigating officer, said: “Specialist officers have updated Keigan’s family and are continuing to support them as they try to come to terms with and digest what has happened over the last 48 hours.

“I would also like to please reiterate my request for people to be mindful of what they are posting across social media networks.

“It’s really important to refrain from posting any speculative comments and details about the case, to avoid further distress to Keigan’s family and allow them the privacy to grieve, but to also allow the criminal proceedings to progress through the courts unhindered.”

Keigan is thought to have died shortly after turning two, and a second birthday banner could be seen yesterday in the window of the house where he was found.

Flowers have been left outside the home and neighbours have spoken of their shock and sadness at the tragedy.

Grieving neighbours and friends are set to pay tribute to the toddler tonight, Saturday, January 11, by holding a vigil in his memory.

People are being asked to gather on Bosworth Road from 6pm and bring candles, flowers and blue balloons, which will be released.
