Man and woman charged in connection with murder of 'loving' father stabbed in Barnsley street

A man and a woman have been charged this evening (June 29) in connection with the death of Stephen Riley, in the Athersley area of Barnsley.

Emergency services were called to Darley Avenue at around 11pm on Friday 26 June, following reports that Mr Riley was seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital but sadly died in the early hours of Saturday. A post-mortem examination carried out later that day concluded that he died as a result of a stab wound to his chest.

Two people, arrested on Sunday, have now been charged.

Martyn Wilson, 37, of Monsal Crescent has been charged with murder and Julie Evans, 40, also of Monsal Crescent has been charged with assisting an offender.

They have been remanded in custody to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning (Tuesday 30 June).
