Mackenzie Ball, 20, died following a two-vehicle collision on Morthen Road, at the junction of Moat Lane, Wickersley, on June 2, 2024.

The crash involved a silver Land Rover Discovery and a silver Subaru Forester.

Mackenzie, who was a passenger in the Land Rover, died at the scene. At least two other passengers were in the Land Rover, while four young men were in the Subaru.

At Sheffield Crown Court on Monday (April 27), the driver of the Subaru, Owen Cocksedge, 19, of HMP Doncaster, pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

He also admitted two charges of GBH for injuries caused to two others in the Land Rover.

Now, it leaves three other young men who were passengers in the Subaru awaiting their day in court. They are:

- Kowen Pitts, 21, of Jaunty Avenue, Gleadless Townend, Sheffield - charged with manslaughter

- Adam Platts, 20, of Newbould Crescent, Beighton, Sheffield - charged with manslaughter

- Deacon Blake, 18, of Jaunty Avenue, Gleadless Townend, Sheffield - charged with manslaughter and Section 18 GBH.

They will appear at Sheffield Crown Court on June 8 for a plea hearing.

The judge, His Honour The Recorder of Sheffield Jeremy Richardson, told Cocksedge: “You have now pleaded guilty to three serious matters.

“You will in due course be sentenced but it falls at this stage whether that should be in a relatively near future or whether it should have to await the outcome of the cases of the other defendants.

“That will have to be decided and you will have to wait.”

Cocksedge was remanded into custody, while Kowen, Platts and Blake were released on bail.
