Emergency services are on the scene after a motorway crash which has caused traffic chaos near Sheffield.

National Highways said in a statement this afternoon: “Following a collision, there is reduced capacity with one lane passing the scene on the M1 southbound between J35A and J35 near Rotherham. Emergency services are in attendance.

“There are delays of 20 minutes above usual journey times and two miles of congestion on approach.”

They are currently describing congestion between between junctions J37 and J35A as ‘severe’.
