A knife, baton and cannabis were seized after a car was searched close to a Barnsley school.

Police officers spotted a car parked in the dark on an access road to a school on Dove Valley Way, Wombwell.

They found three men in their 20s in the vehicle and detected the smell of cannabis.

Officers also found an extendable baton and a knife.

One man was reported for possession of cannabis and another was reported for possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a pointed or bladed article and possessing cannabis.

South Yorkshire Police said: “We don’t think it is just cops that would find three lads sitting in the dark on an access road to a school suspicious, but we thought we would have a quick word.

“That quick word was made a bit longer when our diligent colleague caught a whiff of caribbean cabbage that was not very well concealed in the vehicle.”
