Kind-hearted volunteers go door-to-door in search for missing Sheffield schoolboy Jamie O’Sullivan

Worried residents in Beighton have stepped up the search for missing Swallownest schoolboy Jamie O’ Sullivan with a door-to-door search this morning.

A community has come together to help find the 12-year-old who went missing from Swallownest on Wednesday.

More than 20 volunteers took part in the search, knocking on doors which was sparked by an appeal on social media.

Jamie was last seen on Haigh Moor Lane in the Swallownest area of Sheffield at around midday on Wednesday, November 27.

South Yorkshire Police launched a public appeal to find him on Friday night, and say they believe he could be in the Beighton area of the city.

Kind-hearted volunteers met at 10.30am this morning at Beighton Miners Welfare to alert neighbours in the hope he can be found safe and well.

Paul Blackley from Bakewell has been coordinating the volunteers on Facebook and Swallownest and Beighton community forums.

He said: “We have done three roads this morning.

“We have been given a set of photographs of Jamie and we have been showing them to people today and asking them to ring 999 if they see him.”

He has been helped by a team of volunteers, including Michelle who did not want her surname revealed by the media.

She said the search had brought the community together, adding: “I have a 13-year-old son myself and God forbid if my son went missing I would hope people would help me find him.”

Sue Whittaker and daughter Clare, of Beighton helped with the door knocking this morning.

Sue 58 said: “It is so close to home- I have grandchildren of his age.

“Clare has been following this on Facebook – Paul deserves thanks for arranging it all. It wouldn’t have happened without him.”

Loren Biggin, 24 added: “It is a scary world out there. You never think anything is going to happen in your community under your nose.

“We went out with our dogs yesterday to try and find him. We are trying not to fear the worst if he is hiding out somewhere. The community has been in shock to have a young lad actually missing for so long in these freezing temperatures.

“We are trying to raise awareness There were people who didn’t even know anyone was missing. Now they will know this is really serious.”
