Police visited the home of Robert Anderson, aged 37, of Hazlebarrow Grove, Jordanthorpe, Sheffield, and found 12 cannabis plants, according to a Sheffield Crown Court hearing, after officers had originally gone to his flat concerning another matter.

James Baird, prosecuting, said: “On March 18, this year, officers attended an address on Hazlebarrow Grove, Sheffield, regarding a possible domestic dispute and arrived shortly after 8pm and knocked on the door.”

The potential yield from the plants was estimated at between £4,000 and £6,000, the potential yield from the saplings was estimated at £4,000 and £11,000 and the two lots of dried herbal cannabis were valued at £190 and £110.

Anderson, who pleaded guilty to producing the class B drug, told police the cannabis was being grown for personal use.

Judge Rachael Harrison told Anderson: “Cannabis is illegal whether you agree or not is not my concern. If you come back for any cultivation of cannabis you can assume you are going to prison.”
