Joshua Road Nether Edge: Dramatic scenes as armed police deployed to Sheffield street
There were dramatic scenes in a Sheffield suburb when armed police were deployed.
Officers with guns arrived on Joshua Road, Nether Edge, during the afternoon on New Year’s Eve, according to residents who observed proceedings.
A witness said they heard an officer shouting ‘get on the floor, get on the floor, get on the floor’.
The witness said police officers involved had their faces covered and were wearing body armour, and one appeared to have been aiming a gun at someone on the ground.
The witness added: “It was really loud and scary, like something out of a film.
“I actually wondered if I was in danger, but they seemed to get things under control pretty quickly.
“I know we’ve had issues on our street before, but it’s really a nice area with a lot of young families. The thought there might be people with guns around is terrifying.”
South Yorkshire Police today released a statement about the nature of the operation.
A spokesperson said: “On 31 December, around 2pm, armed officers attended Joshua Road in Nether Edge as part of an on-going operation. No arrests were made.”
