The 23-year-old, originally from Crosby, Merseyside, was on a night out with old school friends, when he was killed.

His friend and bandmate, Michael Callaghan, who also studied at Sheffield Hallam, was among those injured in the attack.

He remains in hospital, having been transferred to Liverpool where he is undergoing rehabilitation at a specialist neurological hospital.

The trial of McLeod, of Nately Grove, Selly Oak, Birmingham, is to be held at Birmingham Crown Court.
