'It's busier everywhere', say South Yorkshire Police as they urge people to stick to lockdown rules

Officers from South Yorkshire Police have urged people to stick to the lockdown rules, claiming the county is "increasingly busy” everywhere.

The force has had a visible presence across South Yorkshire as they enforce new laws brought in to help delay the spread of coronavirus – and paid tribute to those who have been staying at home for “undoubtedly saving lives and helping to ease the burden on the NHS and our other emergency services.”

However, post on the Off Road team’s Facebook page on Friday said: “We cannot help but notice on our travels around South Yorkshire that it is increasingly busy on the roads, on the parks at retail parks, in fact everywhere.

“The number of people losing their lives has not lessened and the number of new cases remains high. While ever these restrictions are not being abided by it will undoubtedly lengthen the time we are in lock down.”

They said they are one of “a number of teams being tasked daily to breaches of Covid-19 restrictions.”

On Thursday, they dealt with a group who had travelled by car from Doncaster to Thrybergh Country Park to smoke cannabis.

Officers said the cannabis was seized and the group were dealt with under the new coronavirus legislation.

Later that day they also seized a Honda CR85 bike in Thurcroft, near Rotherham. Officers said the VIN number and engine number had been scratched off.

“Please, please abide by the lock down restrictions and help stop the spread of Covid-19,” the post said.
