Investigation launched following alleged racially aggravated assault in South Yorkshire

Officers investigating a reported racially aggravated assault in the Herringthorpe area of Rotherham on Saturday (18 July) are appealing for information as enquiries continue.

At around 1.30pm two Asian women, both in their forties, were walking along Herringthorpe Valley Road when a man began shouting racist remarks. An altercation took place during which one of the women is said to have been assaulted.

T/Inspector Alec Gibbons, of the Rotherham Central neighbourhood policing team, said: “This kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Rotherham, or anywhere in South Yorkshire.

“Since the incident was reported we have carried out numerous enquiries and we are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, who witnessed the incident or the man we are looking to identify.

“He is described as being white, in his forties, and wearing a dark blue and white horizontal striped t-shirt, light blue jeans, a plain dark blue baseball cap and dark sunglasses.
