Investigation launched after man dies in tragic house fire

A multi-agency investigation has been launched after a man died in a house fire in Doncaster.

Emergency services were deployed to a house blaze on Chaucer Road, Mexborough, at around 7.25pm and found the property engulfed in flames.

Firefighters extinguished the flames by 8.15pm but remained at the scene until midnight.

Three crews were involved in the firefighting operation, with the blaze affecting most of the house.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene after being found outside the property.

He has not yet been named but an investigation is now under way to establish how the fire started.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Firefighters responded to an incident on Chaucer Road, Mexborough, on Wednesday evening in which a man sadly lost his life.

“A multi-agency investigation is underway to determine the circumstances around his death.”

A statement on the incident has not yet been released by South Yorkshire Police.
