Inquest opens into death of Sheffield man – stabbed to death in his own home

An inquest has opened into the death of a Jordan Marples-Douglas, who was found stabbed at his home in Sheffield.

The 23-year-old was discovered with multiple stab wounds at his house on Woodthorpe Road in Woodthorpe, last Friday night, March 6, and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterwards.

An inquest into his death was opened at Sheffield Coroner’s Court today, Thursday, March 12, by coroner Tanyka Rawden.

The court heard how Mr Marples-Douglas was born in Sheffield and lived with his partner, and Ms Rawden said she had been told he was unemployed at the time of his death.

“He was sadly found deceased at his home address and was identified after death by his mother,” she said.

“Enquiries into his death are still ongoing and therefore I’m going to adjourn this inquest to May 19….

“I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere condolences to the family of Mr Marples-Douglas at this difficult time.

Two people have been arrested in connection with Mr Marples-Douglas’ death.

A 25-year-old man from Sheffield, who was arrested on Tuesday night on suspicion of murder, today remained in custody.

A 21-year-old woman arrested yesterday on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released under investigation.

A sea of floral tributes has been left outside Mr Marples-Douglas’ home, with one message describing him as a ‘lovely lad’.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information and witnesses as part of their investigation, with people asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 856 of March 6.
