In the early hours of yesterday, two officers patrolling Skye Edge Avenue, Skye Edge, spotted a Volkswagen Golf and spoke to the occupants of the vehicle.

The driver said it was his car and he had a licence but then ran off with the passenger from the vehicle.

Both men were chased and apprehended.

A search of the car led to the recovery of 43 cannabis plants and police checks revealed that one of the men arrested was an illegal immigrant.

Neither he nor the other man had a driving licence or insurance.

South Yorkshire Police said: “When they got back to the car, our colleagues fathomed the mystery of why they had both run – one was an illegal immigrant, there were forty-three cannabis plants in the car and not a hint of a driving licence or insurance between them.”
