GREEN-fingered residents will be given tips on how to keep their gardening equipment safe at a crime prevention event on Monday.
Police in Chesterfield are working with Dunston Hall Garden Centre to offer advice and free safety equipment following a spate of shed break-ins.
Officers will be at the garden centre from 1pm, giving away free shed alarms and tamper-proof screws.
They will also be offering advice on how to make properties less attractive to thieves by installing security lighting, locking garden gates and using gravel as a deterrent.
Police Community Support Officer Hannah Blockwell said: “At this time of year we generally see an increase in the number of shed burglaries, with thieves often targeting new gardening equipment.”
