How police are tackling lockdown in Page Hall after people pictured at Sheffield park

The leaflets were delivered yesterday on the same day that a photo was taken of a large number of people ignoring social distancing rules and congregating in a park on Wensley Street.

The UK is on lockdown in a bid to halt the spread of the virus, with residents urged to stay in their homes apart from exercising once a day, food shopping, medical needs and essential travel to work.

The police have been given powers to enforce the lockdown.

South Yorkshire Police said: “The Fir Vale Team has been pounding the streets of Page Hall delivering leaflets in Roma and English reminding residents of the requirements announced on Monday.

“Thank you to Fir Vale School with the help translating the advice – partnership working.

“Some people are still feeling that they can ignore the advice and the team will continue to intervene. If you are out and about expect to be challenged, we are all in this together. Stay at home.”

As of yesterday, there were 174 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Sheffield, according to Public Health England figures.

The figure went up by a third in one day.

So far, four patients with Covid-19 have died in Sheffield since the outbreak began.
