Hospital fines for visitors

VISITORS to Sheffield hospitals will no longer be clamped if they ignore car parking rules, but will be fined £60 instead.

The fine will reduce to £30 if it is paid within 14 days.

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is to introduce ticket fines from October 1 for blocking ambulance access, abusing disabled bays or failing to pay for parking.

Neil Thompson, manager for hotel services at the trust, said: “The majority of people who visit our hospitals park appropriately and will not need to worry about receiving a fine.

“However there are some people who simply choose not to park responsibly, don’t pay and in some cases even block access for emergency vehicles. Therefore, some means of enforcement to ensure the safe running of the hospital sites is essential.”

Fines go towards NHS care.
