Homeless South Yorkshire duo jailed for burglary

A judge has delivered swift justice to a homeless duo from Barnsley after they were caught burgling a shop in the town.

Robert Hudson, 40, and Amber Laing, 21, both of no fixed abode, were yesterday (2 April) jailed following a burglary at a shop on Midland Road in Royston in the early hours of Tuesday (31 March).

Hudson was handed a 26-week sentence, while Laing was sentenced to 56 days imprisonment.A call from a member of the public alerted police to their presence at the shop.

Officers arrived on the scene and arrested the pair inside the property. They were both later charged with burglary.Sergeant Stephen Newton said: “We are pleased with the sentence Hudson and Laing have received today. Thanks to the quick thinking of a member of the public and my colleagues, the pair were stopped in their tracks.“Burglary can have a lasting impact and it is something we take incredibly seriously”
