THE traditional throwing of coloured powder will add a splash of spectacle to a Hindu festival being celebrated in South Yorkshire next week.

Indian dance, traditions and entertainment will make up the Holi Festival of Colour on Friday, March 16, from 7pm.

The ancient Hindu festival marks the arrival of spring and the death of the demon Holika.

At Oakwood Technology College on Moorgate Road, revellers will be able to join in the traditional throwing of coloured powder and enjoy Indian music, dance and vegetarian food. A Bollywood-style variety show starring renowned Indian dancer Tuhina Bhattacharyya, plus an Indian puppet show, local singers and youngsters, is also on offer.
