'He always had a smile on his face': Teenage crash victim who died on major Sheffield road just days before Christmas named
A teenager who tragically died at the scene of a Sheffield crash just days before Christmas has been named.
The 19-year-old passenger, who lost his life in the collision on Hathersage Road in Dore on Saturday (December 19) at around 10.15pm has been named locally as Jake Birkinshaw from Hathersage.
It is believed that Jake was killed after the 17-year-old driver of the car lost control on the bend, causing the car to flip.
Quarry Simulated Game & Sporting Clays in Freebirch, where Jake enjoyed clay shooting, have led tributes to the teenager.
A post on the Quarry’s Facebook page reads: “It is with deep regret that I have to pass on the very sad news that on Saturday night we lost one of our own in a tragic accident.
“Jake Birkinshaw was a pleasure to be with, and always had a smile on his face. He was a brilliant clay shooter winning most of the Trophys at The Quarry.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his father and family at this difficult time.
“God bless you Jake. You will be sadly missed.”
A wall of flowers addressed to ‘Jake’ has been laid at the scene of the crash with further tributes pouring in for the young man on social media.
Kym Morton said: “Imagine losing your child so close to Chrismas. My heart breaks for his family and friends."
Jenny Colley said: “Heartbreaking news. Family must be forever devastated. Condolences to all. Fly high young man.”
Calls have also been made to improve safety on the road, a known danger spot.
Lise Jackson said: “ RIP young man. Sheffield City Council have been made aware of the number of accidents on this road, my stables are there and we have witnessed many accidents over the years.”
