Detectives are hunting a gunman who threatened staff during a hold up at a convenience store in North Derbyshire.

The man, who was carrying what is believed to have been an imitation firearm, struck at Premier Express on Station Road, Brimington, just before 7pm on Wednesday.

Police said there was a scuffle inside the store, during which a member of staff suffered a dislocated shoulder.

The would-be robber, who escaped empty-handed, was white, in his late 20s to early 30s, slim, with short dark hair and was dressed in black.

Extensive searches were carried out in the area but to no avail.

Detectives are linking the incident to a shoplifting offence at the Co-op in Brimington at around 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Detective Chief Inspector Julian Wilson said: “I want to reassure the public that incidents like this are extremely rare and we have extra officers in the area making every effort to find the person responsible.”
