Gunman stole £700 in armed robbery at Barnsley bookmakers

A gunman stole £700 from a bookmakers in Barnsley after threatening staff.

The robber struck at Coral Bookmakers in Garden Street, Darfield, at 5.40pm on Monday.

Police said he was carrying a black handgun but did not fire the weapon.

He was 5ft 10ins, of a slender build and was wearing a fluorescent orange high visibility vest with a black jacket underneath, black gloves and beige combat trousers with black patches between the knee and ankle.

He was also wearing a woolly hat and a black scarf to cover his face.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “The man is said to have threatened two members of staff in the bookmakers before stealing about £700 of cash and leaving on foot.

“Two members of staff were understandably left shaken by the incident.”
