Gunman still at large after shooting on Sheffield estate

A gunman who opened fire on a Sheffield estate remains at large despite a huge police operation mounted in response to the shooting.

A gun was fired in Villiers Close, Arbourthorne, on Monday night in what was the fourth shooting on the estate in the space of two weeks.

Police officers have flooded the area since and a number of homes were raided yesterday but the culprit remains on the run.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Hakin said: “We have executed warrants at a number of locations across Sheffield as part of a concerted effort to identify and locate those responsible for Monday evening’s incident.“We absolutely will not tolerate armed criminality in South Yorkshire and we have officers from across the force working tirelessly to gather information and investigate this crime.“We are taking this matter incredibly seriously and I wish to reassure the communities affected by this matter that we are progressing multiple lines of enquiry at pace to identify those responsible for this worrying incident.”

The shooting came two weeks after three others in Arbourthorne were reported the space of 30 minutes on Tuesday, November 19.

That night, guns were fired in incidents in Errington Avenue, Eastern Avenue and Errington Way and a man was treated at hospital for a gunshot wound.Anyone with information about the latest incident should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 834 of December 2 Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
