Furious Sheffield man urges police to prosecute over ‘rolling party’ at Bolehills

Angry Crookes resident John Hesketh has written to South Yorkshire’s Chief Constable, Stephen Watson and the city council’s Chief Executive, Kate Josephs, for a second time over concerns about mass gatherings, crime, littering and anti-social behaviour at Bolehills.

Mr Hesketh, a former city councillor, said he is disappointed with the response from both authorities to his initial letter in which he spoke of ‘times when normal living is difficult’ for residents because of the crowds gathered there most nights and the noise and nuisance generated.

He also told the police and council chiefs that most of the issues reported in his first letter constituted ‘offences being committed’.

In his latest letter, sent after more crowds gathered yesterday as temperatures in Sheffield rocketed, Mr Hesketh said: “The crowds gathering have continued as if no preventative action had been delivered by Sheffield City Council and/ or South Yorkshire Police.

“Neighbours have seen occasional police presence but this has hardly dented the huge gatherings, nor changed

the behaviour of these gatherings. It’s still offence after offence.

“Similarly, SCC cleansing staff have manfully emptied bulging bins and swept up the even more extensive piles of

discarded rubbish. However, this SCC activity does not begin to stop the numerous offences that lead to the

problems that neighbours face.

“These offences include excessive noise, often late into the night; drug misuse; underage and of-age drinking;

firework displays and endless deposits of litter. Local residents are not aware that any offender, and there are many, has been caught, let alone penalised.”

He added: “This is almost every day. This is a ‘rolling party’ – it’s now every day, unless it’s snowing.”

Mr Hesketh said between 100 and 400 people gather at the beauty spot most nights.

Earlier this month DJs even set up their decks to play music to the crowds.

In his letter, Mr Hesketh said: “I’m sure I speak on behalf of the many residents who just want to see an end to this party madness. And an end and the long list of offences that go unchecked.

“Please use the powers invested in your two organisations to stop this mayhem on our doorsteps, most of it illegal.”
